The lakes work to feed, protect, and insulate a diverse variety of crops to ensure healthy annual harvests. 

Today, Michigan is home to five American Viticultural Areas (AVAs): Fennville, Lake Michigan Shore, Leelanau Peninsula, Old Mission Peninsula, and Tip of the Mitt.
